Liquid pressure measurements in a thermally assisted mechanical dewatering process
نویسندگان
چکیده
The thermally assisted mechanical dewatering process, investigated in this paper, couples in one stage mechanical dewatering at low pressure (Papplied < 1125 kPa) with a moderated heating (T < 80°C). Former studies emphasized that the separation enhancement depends on the product. To identify the mechanisms involved, a 1D filtration/compression cell is instrumented with pore liquid sensors distributed on the wall. Talc and cellulose in suspensions in salt water are used as test materials. Cake growth and consolidation can be followed through these measurements. With heat supply, the liquid pressure gradient, which has vanished during the consolidation, re-appears in the cake. An additional flow of liquid occurs when the thermal equilibrium is reached in the porous media. This additional flow represents 18% of the filtrate mass recovered at ambient temperature for talc suspensions and half less for cellulose suspensions.

Thermally assisted mechanical dewatering (TAMD) is a new process for energy-efficient liquid/solids separation which enhances conventional-device efficiency. The main idea of this process is to supply a flow of heat in mechanical dewatering processes to favour the reduction of the liquid content. This is not a new idea but the proposed combination, especially the chosen operating conditions (te...

متن کاملTwo-fluid Electrokinetic Flow in a Circular Microchannel (RESEARCH NOTE)
The two-fluid flow is produced by the combined effects of electroosmotic force in a conducting liquid and pressure gradient force in a non-conducting liquid. The Poisson-Boltzmann and Navier-Stokes equations are solved analytically; and the effects of governing parameters are examined. Poiseuille number increases with increasing the parameters involved. In the absence of pressure gradient, the ...

Buckling of imperfect thin shell tank which is subjected to uniform axial compression is analyzed. The effect of internal pressure on the stability of a shell tank filled with a homogeneous-heterogeneous liquid was considered. Investigation of the liquid nature effect on reduction of the shell buckling load is performed by using the finite elements method. Calculating results in terms of analyt...
